Stuff
I have always been a fan of the “what’s in your bag” type of posts. So here is a post about the stuff I use and why I like each of them. I get commissions for purchases made through some of the links below, but the recommendations are genuine.
Desk #
A standing desk to avoid sitting all day long. For better or worse, this one has a hand crank, which takes about a full minute to move between sitting and standing positions.
Ergonomics #
You need to take care of your body; eyes and hands in particular.
– WorkPro Quantum 9000 Series Ergonomic Chair
- Highly adjustable and very comfortable for long periods. I use the pricier Aerons at work and can’t tell a difference.
- Great everyday monitor. Some might say 4k @ 27" is too small but I scale the monitor to 175% on Windows to keep content large on-screen and the 4k helps keep it all crisp.
– Logitech MX Vertical Wireless Mouse
- This mouse helped reduce strain on my wrist and arm.
Laptop #
- A well built laptop with wonderful battery life. What more can you ask for?
Phone, Tablet, & Wearable #
Android used to be my preferred OS due to its more open nature. But I found the ecosystem lacking in many regards, especially cross-device sync so I moved to Apple. Being part of team blue bubble is also nice.
- Solid phone for daily photography - featuring 3 dedicated lenses. It is surprisingly heavy for its size though.
- iPads complements the iPhone well and I got a great price for it. I mainly use it for reading the news and PDFs.
- Like the iPad, the Apple Watch complements the iPhone and Apple ecosystem very well. I use the device to help track my daily fitness and to keep me motivated to reach my move and workout goals.
Apps #
– VS Code
- Excellent code editor with plrenty of extra plugins and themes available. Easy to add Jupyter notebook functionality too.
- The easiest zero config VPN service I’ve ever installed. It made connecting to my home NAS so easy I 😄 thinking about it.
- The best instant messaging software I’ve used that’s cross platform and feature rich.
- A lightweight, open source, and free iOS and macOS RSS app. My favorite.
- Free macOS windows manager that makes it easy to move and resize windows.
– Plex Amp
- The best music player app that taps into your Plex music library.
