My Best Man Speech
Best Man Speeches #
Being asked to be someone’s best man is a lot like being called to jury duty. You don’t really want to go, but you have to.
Funny best man speeches are great but they are dicey, depending on the audience. For me, the speech is an opportunity to showcase the groom in a good light; to share with the audience something personal that highlights why the groom is not only a great person, but why he’ll be a fine husband.
I’m sharing the speech I wrote for my best friend, Felipe. If you’ve found this page in hopes of getting ideas for writing your own speech, I hope it helps. It took me a few iterations to get to a good place. Here’s my parting advice: keep everything classy, compliment the bride, keep it under 5 minutes, shine a good light on the groom, and add some light humor into the mix. And practice delivering it at home!

Hi everyone, look, I know it’s the fourth speech of the night. I see you wiggling in your chairs, you want to dance! This will be short and we’ll all be dancing before you know it. Thirty minutes tops. Just joking!
Danielle, you look absolutely stunning tonight. And dare I say it, your glow is making Felipe look a lot more handsome than I remember him to be too. I had to do a double take earlier.
Felipe and I have been best friends since we met in middle school, some 17 years ago. I think I can paint an accurate portrait of him by now. And if you visualize him, his beard is his trademark. And believe it or not, he had a full beard in the 7th grade. Less grays for sure, but just as sharp.
Now he doesn’t know this but it’s one of the reasons I befriended him – I knew that beard was going to attract a beautiful girl or two. And it looks like I was right. She may not admit it, but I’m confident that beard is what won Danielle over. I know this, because the beard is with us tonight too.
Behind that scruff, you’ll find a relaxed personality. A smart, hardworking, genuine, and good-natured man. And to me, my most trustworthy and loyal friend. Rain or shine I know Felipe’s got my back.
About a year ago, I was installing a new roof and I needed some extra help so I called Felipe - the first thing he said, without hesitation was, no problem, when do you need me. As we were speaking, he slowly realized he’d have to get up on that roof. And so the second thing he asked, how high is this roof Aleks!?
Now, from my viewpoint, it wasn’t too bad. But at 7am when he was rolling in, he wasn’t looking at me on the driveway, he was looking up at that roof. Poor guy, he doesn’t like heights. His knees were shaking going up and down that ladder – but he toughed it out for me because that’s the kind of person he is. He’s always there for you.
Look, I’m so grateful to be alongside you both tonight. I’m glad that Felipe met you Danielle – you’re a warm, loving, and caring person. You deserve a good husband. And if Felipe is half the husband as he’s been a friend to me, you’re set for life. I wish you both all the best - may your lives be full of joys, health, and success.
Please everyone, join me for a toast, to Danielle and Felipe, may they live long happy lives full of rich memories and love!
Cheers!
